Hey Beloved!
If you’ve ever wrestled with the question, “Do I really need to go to church to grow in my faith?” — you’re not alone. Many of us have walked through seasons of hurt, disappointment, or even burnout when it comes to the local church. Maybe you’ve thought, “Can’t I just pursue Jesus on my own? Isn’t He enough?”
The reality is this: Jesus is more than enough. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is the Vine, and apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).
BUT 👉🏽 When God Isn’t First, Everything Crumbles
Something the Lord once impressed on my heart was this: “God is my community, and people are my ministry.” In Him, I find all that I need, and from that place of fullness, the Holy Spirit directs me to the right resources and the people He wants me to bless. I share this so we don’t forget to keep our love rightly ordered—God first, always.
Now, it’s true that we all have desires—whether that’s for friendship, love, security, or even opportunities. And those desires aren’t wrong. God Himself wired us to long for connection, growth, and goodness. But our first and deepest desire must always be to be filled with Him. When we allow God to meet our every need first, we not only experience true satisfaction but also approach our other desires from a place of wholeness, not emptiness.
God delights in blessing us! That’s why part of His design for our growth includes being connected to others. He knows we flourish when we do life with His people—but only after we’ve first anchored our hearts in Him.
God Designed Us to GROW Together
In Ephesians 4, we see a powerful picture of how God equips His people. Scripture tells us that when Jesus ascended, He gave gifts to His body — pastors, teachers, evangelists, prophets, and apostles. Why?
“To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:12–13)
Beloved, spiritual maturity isn’t a solo project. God uses community — the body of Christ — to teach us, train us, test us, and transform us. That’s why the local church matters.
The Local Church Is a Place of Strength
Being part of a local church isn’t about finding perfect people. There’s only One who is perfect, and His name is Jesus. The church isn’t meant to be a museum for saints; it’s a rehabilitation center for the broken.
Yes, people will sometimes fail us. Yes, there are churches that don’t reflect God’s heart. But that doesn’t change God’s design. When we are planted in a healthy, Spirit-led community, we are nourished in ways we simply can’t experience alone:
We learn truth together. God’s Word is taught, and we gain understanding through sound teaching.
We build each other up. Fellowship strengthens us when we’re weary.
We serve side by side. Purpose unfolds when we pour into others.
We GROW through trials. Adversities become opportunities to deepen our roots.
We are refreshed. God’s presence is often most tangible when His people gather.
Planted, Not Just Attending
There’s a difference between going to church and being planted in one. To be planted is to dig in, GROW roots, and allow God to shape you through community. Just like a tree flourishes in good soil, we flourish when we’re planted in a local body where God’s presence is honored, His Word is preached, and His Spirit is alive.
When I finally allowed myself to be planted, I found myself soaking up God’s presence in tangible ways. Worship became richer, fellowship more meaningful, and I felt a new strength rising in me. Being planted isn’t always easy — but it is life-giving.
Community for the Believer is Vital
If you’ve been hesitant about the local church, I want to encourage you: don’t give up. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. Not every church will be a fit, and discernment is needed. But somewhere, there is a community of believers where God wants to root you, water you, and GROW you.
Because here’s the truth: Spiritual Growth Matters. And God never designed us to do it alone.
So Beloved, let’s lean into His design, trust His leading, and allow ourselves to be planted where we can GROW deeper roots in Christ.
Let’s GROW, together. 🌱
In love and grace,
